Cloth Pads... whhhaaaat?

I used cloth pads for lochia following the birth of my son and second daughter and found them to be so much better than paper/disposable pads. No sticky glue pulling on delicate parts and no fishy smell! I especially appreciated not experiencing the itchiness I have always associated with my period- I now know it was actually something in the paper pads. For those who don't like internal protection, cloth pads are a wonderful alternative to disposable pads. They are easy to care for, simply soak in a jar and wash later with towels or if you cloth diaper you can wash them with your diaper laundry! If you have plants, I hear they thrive on water you used to soak your pads. I would try it, but I don't have indoor plants. My black thumb forces me to plant wildflowers and low-maintenance outdoor plants. ;)

And if you need more reasons to switch to cloth pads besides the monetary savings and personal comfort, you could save your local landfill tons of waste by using a menstrual cup and/or cloth pads. The DivaCup, Keeper and Mooncup are intended to last approximately ten years, while the life of your cloth pads will depend on how you care for them.
